Shapes in kindergarten - learning through play
Geometric shapes and bodies are part of a child's world of experience: a round plate here, a square picture there or a rectangular carpet. Colourful wooden blocks in rectangular, round, triangular and other three-dimensional shapes - children love to play with geometric shapes from an early age. Our kindergarten supplies offer a variety of geometric solids and shapes that can be used to create interesting geometry activities in kindergarten.
Learning to recognise, name and differentiate between triangles, circles, rectangles and other basic geometric shapes is an important part of early mathematical development. Sorting by colour, size or shape, laying out patterns, creating pictures - there are so many ways in which children can familiarise themselves with geometric shapes in kindergarten. With geometric solids, surface templates, tangram and other educational laying and pegging games from TimeTEX, children learn to differentiate, compare and name the various geometric shapes. This develops children's cognitive abilities, language skills, fine motor skills and spatial imagination.
Early geometric learning
There's no doubt about it - arithmetic and counting are part of maths. But recognising, naming and distinguishing geometric shapes in preschool and kindergarten are also basic mathematical skills and are therefore an important part of early mathematical education. By working with solids and shapes in kindergarten, children develop geometric thinking, that will later form the basis of geometry in primary school.
A playful introduction to the world of geometry starts with naming and distinguishing between different geometric shapes and solids. Our game "Geometric shapes in everyday life", for example, is ideal for this. Children learn to match objects from their everyday environment to geometric shapes: The tin can is a cylinder and the ice-cream cone is a cone. This encourages the child's ability to identify and classify, both of which are cornerstones for mathematical understanding.
When designing with our templates, children learn that geometric shapes are created by drawing and connecting lines. This set teaches them to differentiate between the surfaces and gives them examples of how surfaces can vary in size and shape. The activity helps them to remember the shapes particularly well.
Develop your child's spatial awareness, sense of geometry and imagination with the Tangram Playing Set. It is a great way to learn basic geometric shapes, figures and symmetry. Hardly any other puzzles provide so many basic geometric experiences. Various tasks with suggested solutions provide variety and a sense of achievement, which increases the motivation to learn.
With our geometric surfaces and solids in different designs, children can literally grasp geometry and experience it with all their senses. This develops and enhances their perceptual skills and spatial imagination.
