Office essentials: laminating pouches for optimum protection
Laminating pouches in A4 are a great solution for the protected storage of documents, presentations and more, while at the same time enabling a professional presentation of the contents.
What are laminating pouches?
Laminating pouches are special plastic sleeves that are used to protect documents, photos or other materials from damage, moisture and dirt. They can either be sealed using a laminator or special cold laminating pouches are used, which do not require a laminator.
What is the difference between hot and cold lamination?
In hot lamination, a laminator is used to activate the adhesive of the laminating films and bond the two films together with controlled pressure. Cold lamination, on the other hand, uses self-adhesive laminating films that can be applied to the document without heat. While hot lamination is particularly geared towards long-lasting protection, cold lamination is particularly suitable for heat-sensitive materials such as photos.
A4, A3, A5 and more laminating pouches: the right protection for all formats
Laminating pouches are available in a wide variety of formats, thicknesses and surfaces to meet the diverse requirements of everyday school and office life.
The format - DIN A5, DIN A4, DIN A3 & Co.
A4 laminating pouches are probably the most common format. Films in this size are perfect for standard A4 documents. Larger documents, such as posters and graphics, are optimally protected in DIN A3 laminating pouches. In addition to film pouches in DIN A4 and DIN A3, there are also smaller sizes such as DIN A5 or a photo format. Laminating pouches in A5 are suitable for handouts and presentation cards, for example. Special formats also allow business cards or even playing cards to be laminated so that these documents can also benefit from effective protection.
The thickness - What does micron (mic) mean and which thickness of laminating film is the right one?
The micron value (mic) indicates how thick or strong the laminating film is. For important office supplies for teachers and general school documents as well as photos, you can choose laminating films with 80 - 125 mic, while a business card will benefit from a laminating pouch with a higher value (125 - 250 mic). Although higher mic values offer more protection, they also lead to a reduction in flexibility. Therefore, when choosing a suitable laminating pouch, you should consider both the type of paper to be laminated and the intended use.
The finish - what surfaces are available?
A laminating pouch with a glossy finish ensures brilliant colours, while laminating films with a matt finish minimise glare and fingerprints. There are also laminating films that combine both surfaces in one product, so that one side of the film is matt and the other side is glossy. In addition to these common options, there are also textured laminating film pouches and laminating pouches with satin effects.
Laminating film pouches: Correct disposal
As you already know, laminating pouches are an important part of modern office and school equipment. However, once the contents are out of date or the item is damaged, the question often arises as to how laminated paper can be disposed of. As a rule, these items cannot be recycled as they are made of both plastic and paper. If there are no regulations that require laminated paper to be disposed of as hazardous waste, you can dispose of your laminated documents as residual waste.
