Methodological and didactic tips:
The teacher places the smelling bottles (with yellow and white lids) on the table. They take a bottle with a yellow lid, open it and smell it carefully. They then place it in front of them and open the bottles with white lids one after the other, smell them too and compare the two odors. Once the correct odor can is found, the two are set aside together. If the smell does not match, the next bottle is compared. Once all the bottles have been placed in pairs, the color markings on the floor are used to compare whether they have been assigned correctly. The smelling bottles are then mixed and given to the child.
Variations:
- the exercise is carried out blindfolded
- place the bottles separately and in different rooms (the smell must be memorized over a longer period of time)
suggested materials you can use for smells include cinnamon sticks, fresh mint leaves, coffee granules, fresh cloves, vinegar, aniseed, etc.
Absorbent cotton soaked in essential oils (rose, lavender, eucalyptus, vanilla - preferably alcohol-free organic oils) are also ideal.
